Today's blog is all about the person behind the business - me! I thought I'd go right back to basics, a kind of welcome to my new followers and a 'behind the scenes' thank-you to those who have supported me through my first years.
So, Who Am I?
The simple answer is....... I wish I knew! I'm a mother, a wife, a friend, and a business owner, which really means I am a: taxi driver, alarm clock, chef, cleaner, counsellor, disciplinarian, playmate, PA, confidante, companion, crafter, buyer, marketing lead, CEO, book-keeper, shipper and handler............ Life is busy but it's all good, I'm grateful and forever mindful that I'm incredibly lucky. Even if some days I collapse into bed just thankful that we're all still alive.
I have 4 sons ranging in age from 9 months - 18 years which certainly keeps me on my toes. I can enjoy Rhyme Time in the morning and be looking over University prospectuses after tea (online obviously, as I was treated with such disdain when I suggested we got our hands on some actual hard copy books like we did in my day - 'No-one does that anymore Mum, honestly you're so OLD'). Some days are quite surreal but it's certainly never boring at Tilly Towers! I affectionately call the boys by number, as I seem to have succumbed to the 'old lady' (there's that OLD word again) thing of chanting every other name in the family (including the pets) before I get to the right one for the child I'm actually speaking to. They don't seem to mind this numerical approach and I use it often on my Facebook posts to save confusion for others too. I'm thoughtful like that!
I have been married for almost 4 years, although we have been partners through good and bad for coming up to 10 years. I have basically created my own little 5-a-side team who are always on my side - unless of course it involves technology, curfews or choosing a film.
As I think you all know, I love any sort of crafting. I love making things from scratch, I love recycling and upcycling anything, I love learning new ways to create and sharing crafty knowledge with others. I love it when people smell good enough to eat and I heartily dislike it when pongs can be avoided, you know, by washing, using deodorant or the like. I blame my 20-year career in Medical Microbiology where smells played a huge part in every day life!
Crochet is one of my favourite things in the world and I adore beautiful yarns. I am addicted to fabric too, and my trusty sewing machine is one of my best friends. As is my seam ripper - if you're a sewer, you'll know. I love the colour purple, tulips and Orla Kiely.
I was brought up on a farm in Northern Ireland (Norn Iron to those with the lingo) and I escaped, sorry, left, aged 17 to go to university in Liverpool. I have lived in England now for longer than I lived in NI and I class Liverpool as my spiritual home. I'm not cut out for city life though (country girl, remember) so we live in a lovely seaside village just outside the bright lights.
Is there anything I don't like? Oh yes, too many things to mention here but I'll give you a few.... Noisy eaters - my No. 1 pet hate. If you whip out a bag of crisps sat opposite me on the train, I'm likely to text everyone I know, post a facebook status and give you a withering look. Unless you suck them, then we're obviously soul mates. I hate any kind of mess, except my mess of course. My 'stuff' is always there for a reason unlike everyone else I live with who seem to enjoy leaving things lying around to get a reaction out of me. And they do. Every time. #Triggered. I don't like coffee, I'm a tea girl. I make the exception for liqueur coffees as they're totally different and to be enjoyed at will.
There you have it.......a very very brief insight into my little world. It's good to be back!
